From Dated to Fabulous: The Design Journey of a Principal Ensuite
This principal ensuite began as a large but uninspired space—dated finishes, awkward flow, and a lack of character left it feeling more utilitarian than luxurious. Our goal was to reimagine it into a private retreat, blending timeless elegance with spa-like comfort. We started by reworking the footprint. The shower was expanded into a glass-enclosed statement feature, lined with large-format stone for a seamless, modern look. A sculptural freestanding tub was positioned as the focal point, balanced by dual vanities that provide symmetry and ample storage.
Finishes & Materials
To achieve a fresh yet timeless palette, we layered warm neutrals with marble-look porcelain to creates a luxurious backdrop, while custom cabinetry in a soft whites and greys grounds the space. Polished nickel fixtures were chosen for their subtle sparkle, adding refinement without overwhelming the calm aesthetic.
Lighting & Comfort
Lighting was key in elevating the mood. Vanity sconces provide flattering illumination, recessed ceiling lights ensure functionality, and a crystal chandelier above the tub adds a touch of glamour. Heated floors and a towel warmer were incorporated to heighten the sense of everyday indulgence.
The Result
What was once dated and disconnected is now a fabulous, spa-inspired ensuite. Every detail was designed with intention—from the flow of the layout to the shimmer of the finishes—creating a space that is both breathtaking and practical. The result is a private retreat that feels as luxurious as a five-star hotel, yet perfectly tailored for everyday living.

A project of this scale requires more than vision—it demands absolute clarity. Detailed interior design drawings were the foundation of this ensuite transformation, ensuring every element was planned and executed with precision. The drawings translated the design vision into exact dimensions, elevations, and material specifications. This eliminated guesswork, allowing contractors, trades, and suppliers to work from the same playbook. From plumbing rough-ins to electrical placements, every decision was documented, minimizing miscommunication.
Custom vanities, shower glass, and millwork were fabricated directly from the drawings. This level of accuracy ensured that once installed, every element fit perfectly, saving both time and cost during construction.
